Overview
BaniDB is a connector (an MCP server hosted at mcp.banidb.com) that lets an AI assistant, such as ChatGPT, look up authentic Sikh scripture (Gurbani), translations, and reference information from BaniDB. It is provided by the Khalis Foundation.
The connector has no user accounts, no login, and no database. It does not store your requests or the results it returns. This policy explains the limited data it handles when you use it.
Information Collection and Use
When you ask your AI assistant to use BaniDB, the assistant sends us only the details needed to answer that request. Depending on what you ask, this may include:
- your search text and the search type (e.g. first-letter, full-word, English keyword, romanized);
- optional filters — source, writer, or raag;
- identifiers and lookups — page (Ang) numbers, shabad IDs, bani IDs, dictionary words, and dates;
- your translation preference (e.g. which English translation to include).
We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, account credentials, payment information, precise location, or any special-category personal data (such as health data or profiling of religious belief). At the network level, our cloud hosting provider may briefly process your device’s IP address in order to deliver the response, as is standard for any internet service.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
We use it for a single purpose: to fulfill your request — to search for and return Gurbani, translations, and reference lists. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or to train AI models, and we do not sell it.
Who we share it with
To answer your request, we forward the necessary details to:
- the BaniDB API (api.banidb.com) — operated by the Khalis Foundation — to retrieve scripture, translations, and reference data;
- the Sodh API (sodh-api.banidb.com) — operated by the Khalis Foundation — when an English translation is requested, and only the relevant verse identifiers are sent; and
- Microsoft Azure, our cloud hosting provider, which runs the mcp.banidb.com service on our behalf.
Your AI platform (for example, OpenAI / ChatGPT) sends us the request and receives the results. We do not share your data with any third party for their own marketing.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and services
Data Retention
The connector is stateless — it does not store your queries or the results it returns, and we do not retain request logs. Microsoft Azure may transiently process your IP address only to route and deliver the response; we do not keep it.
Your choices and controls
Because we keep no account and store no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to profile or retain. You control what you send by choosing what to ask, and you can stop using BaniDB at any time by disconnecting it in your AI platform.

Changes to this Privacy Policy
The Khalis Foundation and its Affiliates may update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your Khalis Foundation account or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
Children
BaniDB is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
